A Nursing Poem by Melissa

The little click
They told me would translate to
The sound of swallowing:
The healthy heartbeat of hunger
The steady sound of satiety.
Few and far between at first,
We reach a robust rhythm
And I relax, relieved
Trusting he is taken care of
Knowing he is nourished
Grateful he is growing
Impressed by the instincts
Blown away by the biology
Admiring this amazing ability
To bring my babe to my breast
And freely feed him to fulfillment.
During difficulties,
I seek support.
Women worldwide are with me,
Encouraging, coveting,
Those little clicks.
